Un cómic fundamental para el #OrgulloBarroco:
Las Meninas de Santiago García y Javier Olivares.
Un cómic que explica la cómo sólo Velázquez podría haber creado un cuadro genial, admirado en los siglos siguientes.

Born #OnThisDay in 1602: #ElisabethofFrance (1602-44), Queen of Spain as spouse of #PhilipIV, daughter of #HenriIV
Portrait by Diego #Velázquez (1599-1660), ca. 1631-2

Bonus: Self-portrait by Zorn with his models. The original group selfie. Although now that I think about it, Velázquez might actually have that honour.
Diego Velázquez (1599-1660) is considered among the best artists ever.
But he rarely painted religious works. The Coronation of the Virgin (1641-1644) is an exception, showing how God and Jesus are crowning Mary as the Queen of Heaven.

Velázquez’s painting inspired the series of Screaming Popes by Francis Bacon. Bacon deconstructs the confidence & spirituality of man & the power of religion employing the portrait. To see just how powerful Velázquez’s image is, compare it to Raphael’s of a predecessor.

The National Gallery is one of the finest globally with a rich & superb collection. Artists represented range from Vermeer to Velázquez & from Rembrandt to Raphael. The stunning Dutch collection is indicative of the Irish love of the art of the Low Countries.
