In this oil painting, ‘Near the Mount of Olives, Jerusalem’ (), Sargent focuses on the somewhat unreal colours (lilac?) and fluid shapes of the shadows cast on the pale rocks by the setting sun. He makes scant allusion to the landscape's religious connotations. 4/5
