First like the inspiration would be something similar to ReChain of Memory and Battle Network where players can build decks.
People forgets that the DM is also playing and wants to experience the story and be surprised as much as players. Insecure DMs try to act tough and hurt the characters, True DMs make the player cry through narrative.
