On the top layer, I have the entire thing as a gradient with a multiply blend so I can simulate coloured ambient light, to get the bg I just have it as a normal gradient layer

of lineart I posted earlier. Tested' 's colorize mask, applied shading over the flats with normal layer then with a multiply (65% opacity) layer brought all of the colors together. Rim light was on a layer set 2 screen.

1: Ok, so I have my lineart and my base colors first.
Lineart: Pick a dark reddish brown color and set the blending mode to multiply, drop the opacity down ~60%

Base: I made 3 different layers: skin color, the stone, and the rest. Your shading layers will CLIP onto these ones.

I'll start; I'm Lex and I'm an illustrator. The best advice I've used is to not shade with black. Instead for darker colors use blue/purple + the multiply feature. it makes your colors pop out more. Mimi was when I first started doing this.

This piece I'm still not quite done with. I love it so much because it's the first time I've tried varying colors on the color wheel and actually did the shading without multiply layers. I've always been afraid of using contrasting colors, but I gave it a shot for once.
