An important lesson in plein air painting is learning to reduce details.

There's simply no way to paint every detail in a reasonable amount of time. You have to reduce and simplify the scene into something you can convey. Which is part of why plein air is such a great exercise.

Working on breaking down Nearu's design into shapes and trying to simplify it to understand it better. I'm also using Piemation's character, Pretzel, as a foundation for my work. He does a great job at anthro birds, and it really helps at nailing down some of the details.
