I'm aware of the similarities, but they're not really... intentional in a sense?
Mari just happened on her own, and stuck. Maybe I unconsciously used tropes I like, I don't know.

be diff from its original sort of iteration kinda, it's gonna be awesome with how plans are going. It's also gonna look very very nice! i've been tinkering with the earthworm jim method of drawing things in high quality, then downscaling and polishing manually.

Big cat mounts are not new to WoW as nightsabers were the racial mount for Night Elves. Each new iteration of a "tiger" mount has been better than the last. I can only hope the 2022 tiger mount (which I am almost sure is coming) is even better.
