I have a problem with over-complicating my paintings. I’m too keen on blending and not focused enough on proper color theory, lighting, and shading.

Not to mention I have a VERY lazy art style that needs some cleaning up.

On the left is my original drawing and on the right I played more with blur, noise and different blending modes. The RGB blending filters wash it out too much. Need to figure out.

I’ve painted a few oil paintings so far, but I never tried a portrait one. 🎀
That’s why I wanted to do this artwork. I have to say that oil colour is so great when it comes to blending the skin colours, but it’s really hard to do the faint and thin strains of hair.

I agree with all the "you have rad shit" posts because they're 100% true, but something specific I see you do often is this dapply lightning/color blending, which is something I see a lot of artists at your skill level "iron out" and pivot to realism more. I love it a lot!!

In this example here, you can see how I’ve blocked out the shadows and the highlights before I proceeded to blending. This will give you a general idea of which parts are the darkest and which parts are hit with light. And always remember to use reference as well!
