I have a feeling it's always Infinite's (former Jackal Squad leader; the Ultimate Mercenary) fault. If he never discover the Phantom Ruby and neither met Dr. Eggman in the first place, none of this would ever happened. Not even Sonic Forces (from Sonic the Hedgehog series)

Calling it now, Tails will have a baby Tails scene in Sonic Movie 3 where it will be a flashback of him being bullied as a kid for his twin tails. This will follow up with him standing up for himself and beating Eggman for Sonic's honor
