Most I've done with that is this idol who has a superhero form. She uses her singing and dancing to battle evil and help those in need!

Sure, here's Lilo! He's a superhero in training who's got wind powers, and while he seems to have a positive attitude at first, the reason why he wants to become a hero has a lot to do with the hard conditions he grew up in. Still not completely happy with his design though :p

TL;DR, A lot of the stuff that Sonic does actually feels more inspired and in tuned with Superheroes, or Anime, not goofy, silly, slapstick cartoons, the only thing Sonic got inspired from those cartoons was the design CHOICE, not the philosophy behind it.
