Besides that, if a character has a connection to others, I try to give at least one thing that's symbolic of the person they have a tie with (nails painted in the other person's color, shoelaces in the person's color, matching bracelets, earrings, etc.)

Thought we were done, but so many fish were bitter they didn’t get a role in the alphabet I’ll have to do some digits. Yes, seahorse are fish! They can be any color, blending in. For the 4, I feature lingcod, only the luckiest 15-20% of which are turquoise. Truth!

I put the flat colors first after the lineart with 1 layer for each color, then I duplicate the flat color, make it a clipping mask, and paint the shadows and highlights with a watercolor paint brush. If needed, I blend it with a blend brush or a blur brush too
