So... this game was originally planned to be a mainline Sonic game for the Saturn according to Tom Kalinske.
Considering the gap between Sonic Crackers and the Knuckles' Chaotix 1207 prototype, it's theorized development for the Saturn ver. may have happened between then.
Knuckles_ALT was going to have his song with no name. But it wasn't finished. tails_alt was also a playable character in Rosy_ALT's song.

Also, Knuckles was originally planned to be green during Sonic 3's development. Many suspect that Penders just turned him green in the Chaos Knuckles arc because he's become a living Chaos Emerald and all Chaos Emeralds in Archie in that era were green.
