Example here. I blended grey shadows on top of white even though the figure was backlit, gradient mapped it, then colored with a multiply layer. Much less muddy.

tried to color my lines for once, method one is just matching the base color and method two is gradients and multiply. i think it makes it look a lot softer than how i normally do it but i’m probably gonna keep them one color still 😛

I guess using "soft light" mode(1st) and the background color gives more color variation than "multiply" mode(2nd) and background color

Experimenting with color values~ the purple one was drawn and colored in paint tool sai, using only the overlay/multiply/luminosity modes. The bottom one was done using the gradient map, adjust color curves and some smaller detail tinkering in photoshop.

Diamond bust for Fiber on Amino. This was originally just put down as a surprise commission and I went a little nuts with it- plus I found the multiply layer on the way, so I can now shade half decently!
Still not a huge fan of my digital work but I’m sure I’ll get it with work
