...Most of them are queer and/or trans by modern USian standards. It's just, in-universe, they don't draw the same lines between categories.

I have this concept for a while. A group of knowledgeable people from distant unknown came to the land, helped people with magic to fight the monsters and then crowned as the royals.

I guess as long as we're talking about mashing up elements of wendigo and skinwalker stories, it's worth noting that wendigo are an Algonquian story and Skinwalkers are more of a Navajo (and by a broader stroke Southern Athabaskan) one, which are completely different cultures.
