Augustus V. Waller was born #OTD in 1816. #Waller experimented on frogs in 1850, by severing their glossopharyngeal and hypoglossal #nerves. The phenomenon of degeneration that followed, today bears his name.

This is taken from one of ten volumes known as 'Hooker's Fruits' which were commissioned by the RHS to help standardise the nomenclature of cultivated fruit. The painting is dated 1816.
