On this day in 1845, Queen Victoria wrote in her journal that she had 'hung up Winterhalter's lovely sketch of Alice, in her costume, in our sitting-room'. I couldn't find the drawing but it's probably a sketch of this delightful portrait of toddler Alice in Georgian dress.
