Josef Gassler (1893-1978) was an Austrian painter. At first he was an expressionist. Later his works in accordance to the Neue Sachlichkeit (New Realism), which was the relevant kind of art also in Paris in the 1920s.
Born in Hamina, Simberg started art lessons in 1891 before attending the Finnish Art Association (1893-5). He then studied under Gallen-Kallela between 1895-7. Woman (1890), Vedhuggaren (1890), Landscape (1890s) & Devil by the Pot (1897)
