The 'Vatican Vergil' (Vat. lat. 3225) is a stunning illustrated codex from late-antique Rome. The artists who produced the miniatures imitated earlier paintings, giving us an idea of how the Aeneid was visualised in antiquity. Here is the famous scene with Laocoon (fol. 18v).
