On Fridays, new album release day, I highlight I’m late today, and doing it on Saturday, sue me. Or don’t, because you have no standing. Just click on my profile to see ‘em.

The cover of “Ascetic Reflection” by Altars definitely has the heavy metal aesthetic but keeps its sense of impending doom subtle.

This is a white hot illustration concept using a gold foil texture and some spectacular typography. A very modern Egyptian Set theme perfectly executed. It's the cover for "Medallions Monarchy" by Planet Asia ()

An art-deco stained glass window depicts a person holding a record's center illustration to appear as their own face, and very likely getting their finger oils all over the record's surface. It's the cover for today's "7+" by Tomita Lab.

The bass player of ŞTIU NU ŞTIU, Kalle Mattson of designed this tight polyptych illustration for the cover of "New Sun" that looks like futuristic tarot cards.

Me: Tell me you're a Scottish Celtic metal band without telling me you're a Scottish Celtic metal band.

Saor, with the cover of "Origins":

I have to do at least one classic metal album every week. This week it's "Forever Burning" by Denouncement Pyre. Just your normal large-scale satanic rite opening up a door to another dimension or perhaps black hole sun.

This cover is incredible. It's what appears to be a newly sentient popcorn or cotton candy facing the demonic hordes infesting an abandoned theater? Loaded with menacing detail, it's the cover of Bhavi's "POCHOCLOS".

Heavy Metal album cover often depict cosmic events of the awe inspiring and/or horrific. The cover of "Jord" by Soreption (kind of like a painful conniption?) keeps it only awe inspiring with a big chunky painting of alien angels perhaps?

What's more romantic than jumping in the spaceship to take ya best girl out to a barren planet to watch shooting stars hit a giant moon? Furlax have some cool animated versions of the cover for "Ad Astra" on their insta: https://t.co/Xds6BSEjfL

This unsettlingly bleak cover painting for WOORMS' "Fatalismo" is credited to Januz Miralles.

I have rarely seen a "gnarly heavy metal cover painting" of such tremendous restraint and sensitivity. My only regret is the photoshop shadow filter on the title which sticks out like a sore thumb. It's the cover for "Inevitability" by Morgue Supplier. Dope.

Mary Halvorson with two great, vivid covers with original art for her new projects "Amaryllis" and "Belladonna". Explosive abstract watercolor and some well-matched font treatments.

Gnarly, mysterious, and detailed. I wouldn't have expected such subtlety on an album cover for an album called "Crepuscular Dirge For The Blessed Ones" by a band called COSMIC PUTREFACTION but here we are.

Artwork credited to David Gomba.

Ok, I am legitimately surprised by how much I like this album. I'm surprised I didn't feature it on and I regret it now that I'm listening because it's really pretty dope with some big mid-career Beastie Boys vibes.

Look dawg, I heard you like holding your head in your hands so I put hands in your head so you can hold your hands in your head while you hold your head in your hands.🤣

The cover is Xaoc's "Proxime Mortis"

At this point Jack White just exists in his own universe like the almost photorealistic illustration of wreckage on the cover of "Fear of the Dawn". It's a really striking illustration and does a lot with a single color!

You know how I love a good, gnarly heavy metal cover. This one has a great feel. It's Agonist's "AS THE WORLD DIES". I guess as the world dies, black decaying monoliths will float below the clouds.
