Oscar Verpoorten 1895-1948 b. Antwerp, Flemish painter, engraver & teacher. He trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, but was largely self-taught as a painter. His subjects included harbour views, marine studies, cityscapes, riverscapes, portraits & still-lifes.

Today, a short trip further back in time for my portrait of Clara Peeters! We think she might've been born in 1594 in Antwerp, but certainty is lost to time. Exceptionally gifted, we don't know where she was trained but she signed her first painting when she was 12. (7/?)
