Today's theme is Reindeer antlers were found in a peat bog in Rousay in the 1930s. They were a size larger than any previously recorded from Scotland. So reindeer were in Orkney in prehistoric times. Ref: PSAS 1935-6 Vol20

If wound up, the reindeer will make a dash for it, hopping along on its legs which are connected to an internal mechanism.

theme is Coal. In 1598 Haddington was destroyed by fire. To stop this happening again, the Town Crier proclaimed the poem 'Coal and Candle' through the streets every night for the next 250 yrs to remind people to put out their flames.

Christmas 1920 at Whitehaven workhouse. This scene is from the nursery. Note the Christmas tree and the ivy hanging off the ceiling in an attempt to make it festive. We are intrigued by the figure in the doorway. Any ideas anyone?
