I don’t keep much of my process, so it might not be very helpful, but I draw pretty much like other illustrators!
I start by roughly sketching the shape, add basic shading, then refine the details until it’s complete!

also, of course you don't NEED a fleshed out background to have good character illustrations. some of the principles of basic graphic design and backgrounds coincide! a lot of my ZZZ work relies on simple yet non-intrusive bg elements that aren't structural

@kohi2222 Basically False Crown was Genshin x Arknights x The Princess Bride (1987) inspired character design/illustration portfolio I made 2-3 years ago to get work as a student! I still think about these guys occasionally so its fun to re-visit them and keeping adding to it! 😊
