#DINOTOBER day 11. BALAUR BONDOC
This guy is actually part of the lineage that gave rise to modern birds. And was most likely a dwarf dinosaur, in that it evolved on an island, where a whole bunch of species were found to be smaller than their continental counterparts. & stuff.
Keeping names Greco-Roman feels like solidifying the field in its neo-classical West European roots. I appreciate foreign palaeontologists outside of West doing it. Ie, Balaur bondoc - our Romanian serpent buddy.

A long overdue update on my many-years-old Balaur bondoc. The original drawing was made way back when I'd really just started getting into drawing digitally and when Balaur was still a raptor, how things have changed.
Love it when people give me a challenge! Here is a magpie/spider/Balaur design done for @RavenisTired
Some previews of my upcoming Carnivores 2 mod, Carnivores: Archipelagos.
The 3 species present being Zalmoxes, Telmatosaurus, and Balaur.
While it doesn't have a mod page anywhere yet, you can find some more info on its Carnivores Continuum fan wiki page

It saddens me that there are still people out there who haven't heard of the flightless, DUAL SICKLE-clawed, bird, Balaur bondoc, from Hateg island.
A speculative "kakapo like" Balaur bondoc :p
Since balaur was most likely a herbivore and great climber, I thought it would be interesting if I ilustrated it as a nocturnal "kakapo like" avialan instead of a diurnal one

I can not get over how they discovered this unique late Cretaceous fossil in Romania; and my guys, given the rare opportunity to name a dinosaur, officially called it Balaur Bondoc.
Literally, 'chonky dragon'.
Right on, chonk.
Balaur-
One of the many dragons in Romanian #mythology. It is said that their saliva forms gemstones. And that the beasts, themselves, can control the weather and unleash hailstorms. Are you familiar with this creature?

2/20 On this trip we climbed to the “Iorgovan's Rock” peak. According to the legend, Iorgovan was a local Hercules-type figure who fought a Balaur (dragon) in these mountains back during the Roman-Dacian wars.
