#OC_tober / #oc_tober2021 Day 2: Dr. Deathblow
Once one of the most notorious criminals in the Demon World but died, later reincarnated with his soul stuck inside a plushie. He is now an assistant to house manager Lucielle and often comically beaten up when making rude remarks.
Frame 5/18. The deathblow has already occurred on the previous frame. Note how little it actually overshot. No need to push this animation too much. His form is PERFECT. He is in total control. His body relaxes here, yet it still looks so SOLID.
It's a sad case where I kind of understand this, Jim Lee is one of the most famous artists in comics, his work sells huge even now, but the one case where it didn't was his Deathblow run where he CHANGED up his style to much and it just didn't get over at all. https://t.co/yy3PKXkEIC
A clone of Cray the original Deathblow wakes up on an alien world she doesn't really have memories of the events and so goes out into the alien world trying to survive.
So the reason I'm spotlighting this is for a couple reasons, one it NOT like Deathblow at all, two IT did not go anywhere, and three, It's EXTREMELY minimalist, to the point that for most of the comic it's kind of silent.
Deathblow himself is also not that interesting, if you want a good generic 90's antihero baseline he's kind of a good one. Him or Bloodshot follow a lot of the hallmarks, including his origins being tied to massive backstories and conspiracies.
Lee Bermejo. Easy to dismiss as so stylistic but he’s a really strong storyteller. His early Wildstorm work was different to his peers and he got real good! Batman/Deathblow is a great story (good reads doesn’t agree). Some good looking books!
Batman Deathblow!! The crossover where the characters don't even meet and honestly I'm hot and cold with Azzarello's writing but I love this, and Lee Bermejo's artwork is so goddamn great in this
A problem in recent years whenever Wildstorm is rebooted, they take it far too serious and realistically, yeah these characters were created in the 90s but you can still have A lot of fun with them, you have guys called Deathblow, Warblade & so on, have fun with the characters
The Deathblow/Wolverine crossover was a nice surprise. The Aron Weisenfeld & Richard Bennet art team produced a richly stylistic comic.
