A little morning painting in my studio! I haven’t given up on this 16x20 peanut wagon piece. I’m actually liking the ‘feel’ of it quite a bit. Trying to create that feel of depth through values. No name for this painting yet - any ideas? NC

Just started my next peanut wagon painting. This one is on a larger 16”X20” canvas. My previous attempts at larger format has not ended well. Time to push through that mental block! NC

OK, making some progress but still not sure of all of the decisions so far. Need to think about the trees a bit more as they are obviously the focal point of the painting! NC

I’m happy with the basic composition and ‘drawing’. Now it’s time to drop in some color into the BIG shapes! NC

I had a great time judging the student art yesterday with Francis and Mary Scott! I was impressed with the quality of the artwork. You can check out all of the submissions and see the winners today at 5:30 at the Chowan Arts Council! NC

Just finished splashing on some color! The ISO Yellow/Yellow Ochre will give me some help with bright highlights and the Ultramarine Blue/Paynes Gray/Cad Red will establish the darks. I want this to be a very moody painting as compared to the ‘study’. NC

Wow! Here is the painting after a glaze of Red Oxide. I like the warmth that it brings to the canvas. Still not finished. More blue glazes in the sky and then coming back with opaque highlights. NC

OK, I’m liking this painting more today than I did yesterday! I’m going to try something totally new as my ‘next step’ - a Red Oxide glaze over the entire canvas! 😬 NC

“High And Dry” is about 80% finished. Today’s focus is the boat’s structure (riggings, pipes etc.). NC
