@BadGameHOF SEGA did try that early on in Sonic's life. Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine didn't feature Sonic at all (It isn't even implied that you are him), but featured Eggman and his minions.
There's also Knuckles' Chaotix, which ditched Sonic in favor for Knuckles and the Chaotix crew.

Another example is Belle. Creative potential is there, her and Mr. Tinker are supposed to contrast Eggman and Metal Sonic. Cool concept, you wouldn’t even expect an idea like her.

@3511Vo I got one! Trying to explain it is A Lot but it's basically just me trying to fit as many easter eggs and as much lore as I can from different Sonic canons all into one. Also Eggman is a billionaire dictator and Sonic and co. are enemies of the state.
