The Grootslang supposedly lives in the Richtersveld area of South Africa. According to legend, the Grootslang was found to be too powerful, so the gods divided the animal into two species: the elephant and the snake, however some escaped and survive to the present day.

This primordial creature is said to be a mistake by the gods, for it had tremendous strength, cunning and intelligence. When they were separated into the first snakes and elephants, the original escaped and sired many more in South Africa.

African Lore: Grootslang, meaning "great snake." It lived in a diamond cave, the Wonder Hole. The OG Grootslang was too powerful, so the gods subdivided the animal into two species: elephant & serpent, but a Grootslang or two escaped this fate & reproduced.
