Dazzler (Mar. 1981), with cover art by Bob Larkin. Bit of a zombie nightmare edge to this painting, but disco was like that, I suppose. The art is dated 1979, the year of the infamous and childish “Disco Demolition” backlash/protest. Two years later, we had Dazzler!

A preliminary cover painting by Bob Larkin for 1976’s Planet of the Apes alongside the final published cover.

The finest of all Marvel’s 1970s magazines? Issue for issue, I’d say so. Even now, with my love of all things Apes long abated, it makes for a terrific read.

The mower stalled, twice; kneeling, I found
A hedgehog jammed up against the blades,
Killed. It had been in the long grass.

I had seen it before, and even fed it, once.

Unmendably. Burial was no help: ...
