This concept was used later in Megaman 11 where Megaman's physical appearance does drastically reflect the weapon he is equipped with and most likely is what inspired the "Double Soul" look that Megaman.EXE uses.

External media like the archie comics and the Ruby Spears cartoon show Megaman's true name is "Rock", but games like Megaman Powered Up and MM11 refer to his name as "Mega".
This isn't an abbreviation of "Megaman", as "Mega" is how armorless Megaman is referred to in Powered Up

I just realized that today is now 33rd birthday (First game released in Dec. 17, 1987).

I honestly can't say much other than a thanks for being there to solidify more of my love for platformers. I haven't had this much love for a game franchise since Sonic.

I wonder if at one point in Megaman 7, you were not going to change colors depending on your weapon?
The art for Junk Shield and Freeze Cracker have Megaman in almost his normal colors, but for the other weapons art, MegaMan's colors are different.
