In Ovid's Metamorphoses, Galatea is a nereid who falls for the mortal Acis. When a cyclops kills Acis out of jealousy, Galatea turns Acis into a water spirit 🧡 I wanted to do a queer reinterpretation of Greco-Roman mythos and their story was perfect for that 🥹

The opiate drug morphine derives its name from “Morpheus”. In Ovid's Metamorphoses, Morpheus is one of the thousand sons of Somnus (Sleep). His name derives from the Greek word for form (μορφή), and his function was to appear in dreams in human guise.
