Today's monster is Crimson Qurupeco, introduced in Monster Hunter Portable 3rd in Japan and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate globally.
For my first drawing on the new screen tablet I wanted to go for a style that asks a lot of control for lineart. So I went with the ol familiar.
I love this tablet 8)

#MonsterHunterRise is releasing in about 4 days, so I figured I'd dig through my art folder for some #MonsterHunter art I never uploaded for the next couple of days. Here's the first of them: Qurupeco redrawn as a Pokemon.
It'd probably be a Fire/Flying-type.
And now is Suzaku's turn. Meet Lozaku, the "Southern Inferno Bird". This fiery trickster more powerful compared to its cousin Qurupeco, able to fire a noxious concoction of chemicals to weaken opponents, in addition to bathing itself in flames. https://t.co/M6KWffpd0c
Like Qurupeco, Crimson Qurupeco has been seen mimicking the calls of all sorts of monsters within its habitat.

IYKYK, but in case you didn’t, this honky tonky throat-scrote-lookin cockatiel mofo LITERALLY SUMMONS A DEVILJHO
The concept is that it can imitate the roars of other monsters, much like how actual birds mimic animal calls to be nearly identical
A Qurupeco chick is born with a fully developed beak, allowing it to make various calls from a young age. Although these calls could attract predators to the chick's location, its parents will mimic the calls of larger, stronger monsters to scare off any nearby threats.
Much like how the sound of Hunting Horn or flute encourages hunters in battle (Lore wise, that's how hunters get various various buffs from those items), Qurupeco can encourage itself by dancing and letting out a peculiar call.
While Qurupeco prefers to flee from fights, the monster isn't defenseless. On its wings are flintstones that produce a spark when clapped together, setting its enemies on fire.
Each Qurupeco knows certain monster calls, so the monsters each individual mimics is different from the other. Noticeably, the individuals encountered in High Rank and G-Rank (Master Rank) can summon far more dangerous monsters with ease.
When Qurupeco feels truly threatened, it'll call for larger monsters to either act as a distraction while it tries to escape from the chaos or join it in the fight.
While being hunted, Qurupeco has been seen calling all sorts of small monsters to its location to aid in its escape.
The very tip of Qurupeco's beak is trumpet-like and acts kind of like a megaphone as it expands in size, allowing it to broadcast its calls so all nearby monsters can hear it at a moment's notice if it finds itself in danger.

Qurupeco Anatomy
The Colorful Bird, Qurupeco, is a bird wyvern that can mimic other monster calls and summons them for protection or a distraction. Many first time hunters fighting one end up shocked when a Deviljho pops up during the hunt.#Qurupeco. #MonsterHunter
