Portrait of T.P. Chaplygin, a cousin of Ilya Repin, 1877 #repin #ilyarepin
A great work by Ilya Repin, who painted only from life. His portraits stand out as realistic and life-like, yet they are so far beyond of being photographic (just look at the brushstrokes). Art historians refer to him as the ‘Master of psychological portraits’.
#art @lizlevrome
been doing master studies!
(see, my values were a total mess at the first try lol)
original artworks are by Repin, Sargent, Roerich, Levitan, Renoir, Frederick Edwin, Thomas Moran, Meade Schaeffer, Albert Bierstadt.
the attempt of a copy is 'Katharine Pratt' (1890) by Sargent
Thread: Zinaida Serebriakova (1884-1967) was a Russian painter whose work is charming. Maybe not of the same rank as Valentin Serov or Ilya Repin, but likeable & decorative nonetheless. Self-portrait (1908-9), Self-portrait (1911) & Self-portrait (1911).
"Everyone wants to change the world, but no-one thinks of changing himself." - Leo Tolstoy (Portrait by Repin, 1887)
