Just seen the illustrations for 8, newly published in Japan, and they’ve swept me out of Fletcher’s wood and into Millie’s seascapes. Love TaniTomo's wonderfully wintery illustration of the Ice Queen. Looking forward to writing Book 10 in the New Year.

Winslow Homer’s experience of living at Prouts Neck on the wild Maine coast inspired his interest in painting dramatic seascapes. Here’s Carroll Berry’s engraving of Homer’s house/studio in 1937 ■ as it is today ■ and Homer’s view of the coast in 1896

Andrew Wyeth's seascapes.
I had a book full of his art as a kid, it was very inspirational for me.
I think Wyeth is widely known for his realist pieces, like Christina's World and The Uncanny Window, but I personally prefer his more abstract/impressionist artworks...

N. Renaissance & Romantic artistic movements all depicted seascapes. Esp of maritime peoples like Greeks, Dutch, British & Russians. Enough of the lecture! You should be singing! At this rate we won’t meet our monthly shipwreck quota! Sirens who needs a lozenge?

Today explores seascapes. There are some wonderful examples in our collection: Willem van de Velde's A 'Smalschip' with Sail Set at Anchor Close to the Shore, 1650s; Francis Danby's Sunset at Sea after a Storm, 1824; and Gustave Courbet's Eternity, c.1865-69

Delighted to have sold this felt painting this evening as part of the 😊! This painting, Light on the Horizon, is a wet felted and needle felted painting inspired by Scotland’s incredible seascapes.

Another by Frederick Cayley Robinson. Interesting career. He lived in a yacht for 2 years painting realistic Seascapes. His influences were the Pre Raphaelite artist Burne -Jones and Fra Angelico after a visit to Florence in 1898 caused him to adopt a more decorative manher.
