Since it’s Shrove Tuesday I thought it’s the perfect day to remember Ukranian cheese pancakes “syrniki”. When I was a kid my friend’s Ukrainian gran always used to make them with home made blueberry jam 🥞 I know she’d be telling me off for making them so flat 😂

Traditionally played on the Rommelpot, which appears in many 17thC Dutch genre paintings, was an earthenware pot with a bladder stretched over it. The friction drum is played by pushing & twirling a thick straw through membrane to create a hollow 'foolish' sound.
