This is from one of the V&A's greatest treasures, an album of designs on paper for woven silk fabric. They are Europe's earliest dated silk designs, created by Huguenot master weaver and designer James Leman (1688-1745), a prominent member of the Spitalfields silk industry.

If you're joining us for our upcoming week-long spring session of Making Books, why not pair your visit with a walking tour of Spitalfields with the one and only @thegentleauthor exploring the history, streets, and people of the East End https://t.co/RxrMiSW68J
Thank you to The Gentle Author for this map of a tour of the real history of Spitalfields including pioneering women designers such as Anna-Maria Garthwaite in textiles and Louisa Courtauld, one of the first female silversmiths.

when the imperium reprise hits in respite on the spitalfields and then the album restarts and you're back at imperium again
Respite of the Spitalfields is my most favorite, thank you Ghost 💜
It's so hard to choose one favorite from #IMPERA but Darkness at the heart of my love is just...
The first time I listened to it I was already sobbing god I love it so much-
I'm also obsessed with Watcher in the Sky, Spillways, Respite of the Spitalfields and Kaiserion 🖤

Following @thegentleauthor's foray into @WofInteriors with his essay on @DennisSeversHse, today he introduces "The Principal Operations of Weaving, 1748" - many of these activities would have been a familiar sight in Spitalfields three centuries ago.
