I was commissioned by my aunt to draw her, her husband, and their daughter for my uncle's birthday.

I loved adding nods to our Indonesian heritage, such as the batik and the flowers (the melati, the flower we wear every year on August 15th).

Lots of symbolism in this one, as always! The monkeys represent loyalty, and the dense foliage represents obfuscation. She's holding a parang rusak (broken knife) symbolizing power and justice. Finally, her multicolored batik clothing celebrates her Javanese origins.
