Gustaf Tenggren's concept art for Walt Disney's Pinocchio, which was released #OTD in 1940. His original influences were grounded in Scandinavian folklore & fairy tales. A huge influence on Tenggren's style was John Bauer.

@ReosPositivePOV I enjoyed it! Especially it not taking itself very seriously by ripping the gung-ho US movie template for an action film, but in a European setting. Yet it managed to capture the classic magic of Scandinavian mythology for me (spent much time there as a child :))
