Happy Friday! Today's is I for 'I'iwi!

We're back in the Pacific islands for this charismatic little Hawaiian bird, seen here foraging on ʻōhiʻa lehua.

N is for Nuthatch! 🥜🐦

I’ve said “This bird is the best” a lot but — Nuthatches are the best! They might even be the Cutest Birds in the Whole Forest!

They have a very close competitor for that title, who we shall see in a few days…

M is for Meleagris gallopavo, the Wild Turkey!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Wild Turkeys are awesome! They are hand-shaped! Their babies are friend-shaped! The Toms are huge and scary and make great misunderstood antagonists in short lived comics!

Leaving North America behind for tonight!

G: this is the Golden White-Eye (Chamoru: canario), found only on Saipan and Aguijan in the Northern Mariana Islands. I'm fortunate to have banded many individuals of this critically-endangered species.

L is for Larus smithsonianus, the Herring Gull!

The quintessential seagull of the Gulf of Maine. They can be surly and fierce or very chill and graceful. Often within the same moment.

But seriously folks. K is for KING CONDOR!

Very beautiful. Very powerful. Very large, as it turns out, whenever I meet one in person at a zoo.

Seriously though, J is for JAY!!!

And how could it not be? I LOVE Blue Jays! They are beautiful and wonderful and anyone who says they don’t like them is probably a narc.

Today's is D! A little bit of Dunlin simplicity and elegance for your twitter feeds today.

Today's is C.

And I just need you all to know that Cooper's Hawks are not always the fierce predators you might imagine, because they have a whole lot of derp lurking in that little murderbrain too.

H is for Hummingbird! 🧚🏻‍♂️🌺
We had Dinosaur Mermaids yesterday so today we have Dinosaur Fairies. Seriously, these little guys are miracles.

For B, is it bark? Is it lichen? Well, yes, but it's also a Brown Creeper.

10 38

G is for Gavia immer, the Common Loon or Great Northern Diver

How could it not be? I love them so much!

Okay, I'm going to keep these to really, really quick little 30min sketches or I'll never finish them all, but I'm excited to start on ! Beginning with American Robin. Flocks numbering in the thousands of these have flooded town here lately.

F is for Finch! 🐥🧚🏻‍♂️

They’re sweet, they tweet, and they are said to be trusted Fairy friends! They’re so tiny and colorful and just seeing them makes me happy! May our holiday season be filled with wonderful winter finches!

E is for Eastern Kingbird! 🐦

It is a sure sign of summer when we start to see these brave little flycatchers at the lake.

1 5

D is for Dromaeosauridae!
One could argue that this one is a cheat, depending on how you define “Bird”. One could also argue that this is my thread and I get to make the rules, so there.

1 5

C is for CORVIDAE!!! AKA The Best Birds! 🐦

1 6

B is for Bald Eagle 🦅
These awesome raptors have lived at the lake since the mid 90’s, and I’ve been very lucky to see and sketch some unusual behaviors, like swimming!

1 6

A is for good old _Anas platyrhynchos_, the Mallard Duck 🦆 . I still hear a few quacking it up in the evening.
