'Red Barn' ~ Basil Blackshaw (1991).
Although initially Red Barn gives the impression of an almost entirely abstract composition, on consideration it becomes clear that the barn building, is in fact a central part of a very tangible landscape.
Artist Spotlight 🔦 Basil Blackshaw.
Blackshaw was born in Co. Antrim and studied at the Belfast College of Art from 1948 to 1951. In his year of graduation he won a travelling scholarship which enabled him to spend a year in Paris. He has exhibited regularly since 1952.
Blackshaw comes face to face with his past in the most horrifying way possible. On the bottom of the #ChesapeakeBay floats an eerie corpse. Why does it look so familiar to Blackshaw?

#Art .. Blackshaw portraits of Longley, Friel, William Conor, @colin_davidson portrait of @garysnowpatrol ... more to follow. Thanks EM.
#Artist..artist Basil Blackshaw was one of the brightest people I knew but simplicity was his true colour. Asked “how are you doing Basil?” he would say “ah still sleeping under a tree, killing the odd rat and drinking a bottle of stout.” @colin_davidson @MaryFitzger @DanMulhall
