Bluebeard. A fairy tales that puts the grim in Grimm (cw for DV). One of those fairy tales with a warning that's as timely today as ever. I wanted to put Bluebeard in a modern setting in this illustration - but is Bluebeard even the best version of this tale? Story below! /1
Bluebeards are ten-foot-tall fey with humanoid features and long blue beards that often grow down to their waists, from which they take their name. Bluebeards are vile, brutish creatures that will relentlessly harass and pursue people before snatching them up and eating them.
Bye, Bye Bluebeard never had an effect on me. Nope, not one bit. <\\\\<

#FaustianFriday Bluebeard: a French folktale of prohibition: despite being warned not to, Bluebeard’s wife opens a secret chamber only to find it flooded with the blood of his former wives. The myth is reworked into a trope of Gothic literature, from Ann Radcliffe to Le Fanu.

🖤 Richard Wright on first hearing Bluebeard:
“She whispered to me the story…As she spoke, reality changed, the look of things altered, and the world became peopled with magical presences. The sensations the story aroused in me were never to leave me.”

If you are going to @BreakoutCon in Toronto and want to run a @MagpieOfficial game (Avatar Legends, Masks, Bluebeard's Bride, Root the RPG, or Urban Shadows 2E), please let me know!
I need a handful of volunteers to run games at the convention. Includes a badge and swag for GMs!
Walter Crane’s Victorian Bluebeard was forbidding and terrifying. Yet it was also embroidered with neoclassicism, Morris’ influence, & the Arts & Crafts movement’s love of tapestries, old manuscripts, medievalism, &…peacocks -if you can spot them ☺️🦚🗝#FairyTaleTuesday
If I had to pick one fairy tale I loved as a child, it was Bluebeard. Brought to life by Charles Perrault in 1697, & illustrated below by Doré & Dalziel in the 19thc, the tale’s themes of forbidden secrets & the perils of curiosity were as old as Pandora 😱🗝#FairyTaleTuesday
@nanmonroeauthor Bluebeard would be a fun movie to watch on #MeTV #Svengoolie
In Paris, an artist hires portrait models, and after he finishes their portraits, he strangles them.
I own a couple of the original pieces of art from Bluebeard's Bride. Today my sun catcher turned one of them into a dark rainbow.

Bluebeard’s secret, locked chamber is burned in fairy-tale memory. Perrault’s French, 17thc version is the tale we know. It haunts us: his murdered wives stowed away & hidden in that secret room, the bloody key -the symbolism & histories are rich. (See below 🗝) #FairyTaleTuesday
Wonderful #FairyTaleTuesday theme!
Not quite sure if this is on target but I was reading the Bluebeard story recently -- there is a door that is forbidden but entered...
