2nd Nepenthes rajah pitcher virtually finished. Obviously, I will have to add a few things here and there at the end of the painting. Granted, I’m not even half way but so far, it’s not looking bad I think. ;-)

NEPENTHES MAXIMA by Em Nishizuka is printed in her book "Summer Specimen". 22 pages of summer fun, avail. at akatako.

Another toothy species in the making. Painting Nepenthes macrophylla is capping a very exciting year where I learned a lot.

'Dionaea muscipula'

The original VFT. These are the chaps you see for sale as the token novelty carnivore (despite their vulnerable classification). They also have a short term memory and can count to 5. AWESOME plants

"Sarracenia mitchelliana"

There are 8/11 species of Sarracenia all with different quirks/traits which you can cross over to create hybrids! This is a hybrid Pupurea x leucophylla (see my last 2 uploads!).

"Sarracenia purpurea"

I love these dumpy trumpets theyre so common and theyre usually found for sale in crappy supermarkets that don't know how to store these guys properly (i mean that's how i got my supermarket rescue!)

'Dionaea muscipula'

the 'pompom' mutation due to the outsides being covered in spines giving them a fluffy ball appearance. the traps dont close so fertilizer is advised. also theyre tricky to keep, rare, and expensive

'Stylidium'

These plants are -mean-. not only ae they covered in sticky hairs like the Roridula but it has that great big club on its flower that punches insects that land on it with pollen.

'Roridula'

Actually not a Sundew. unlike the dews these guys don't curl up around their prey as they have -so- many sticky hairs the bug quickly becomes entangled/stuck and unable to escape. a Savage South African Shrub

'Nepenthes diabolica'
(Formerly N. Red Hairy Hamata)

So 4 days ago this plant actually got its own classification rather than being seen as a hairy variant of an already known pitcher. 4 days ago..

also he's SO FUZZY!!!

'Dionaea muscipula'

check out this mad lad! the traps don't fully develop which gives them this bizarre looking mouth. This makes catching food rather difficult so in this case its best to feed them a foliar fertilizer

'drosera glanduligera'

The Catapult Sundew
...you had me a Catapults tbh. The little tentacles outside each arm actually throw a bug that walks across it into the sticky glands on the arm.

heckin cool right??

'Aldrovanda vesiculosa'

So this is basically an underwater venus flytrap!
This is an aquatic carnivore that kinda looks like whole flytrap plants strung along together.

1 7

'Drosera spatulata'

"The seed also germinates without much difficulty, causing little plants to pop up in surrounding pots"

No kidding...

noticed the children just the other day. came as a pleasant surprise!!
