Dunkleosteus, one of the many cool fish of the late Devonian. I love the very idea of armored fish, it's just so damned COOL.

When I first started paleoart around 2017, I was basically just doing colored pencil & ink in sketchbooks. Here's a few drawings from then: Skull of Nemegtomaia, the Early Devonian plant Discalis, Tupandactylus eating fruit, and an aerial view of the Rhynie Chert

from 2017 for the giant placoderm Titanichthys filters through Devonian seas. This image is featured in my old school "tour-through-time" 2020 book Life Through the Ages II. I had a blast putting LTTAII together, I hope to something like it again someday.

Duyunolepis, a slightly more streamlined galeaspid, part of a small family that shows up rather late in galeaspid/armored jawless fish existence (mid-Devonian/400 Mya). Duyunolepids inhabited deeper coastal waters than most other galeaspids. 🎨

I was navigating paleozoobr and found this cool group of sharks I didn't knew existed in the Devonian.. and this one is from my state! Nice

Aha, a wip for my next grand Paleoart!. Been wanting to draws fish for a great while; end in love with the late devonian, Famennian. Period just before the Carboniferous. 😸🎨

The work of Yoneda Hitoshi. I love that the artist used the head of a real creature, the Dunkleosteus, a massive, armored fish from the Devonian.

Ancient fish are so strange and and fascinating. Furcacauda is a Lower Devonian (400 MYA) jawless fish who's fossils were found in Canada. The eyespots I put on them are purely speculative, but that nautiloid does think it's looking in a mirror.
