Grotesques were a fantastic genre of decorative arts most common in the 16th & 17th centuries. They explored a blend of animal, plant, & human forms. These elements were found in ancient Roman grottoes. Over time, the word became over-exaggerated & developed a negative meaning.
So while I was designing demon types for my setting, I was thinking on having a Mob type of demon which are Grotesques based on medieval demons, weak on their own, but through the overconsumption of other demons grow into demonic Chimeras, triple de size and far more vicious.
“Tyrion wondered what it would be like to have a twin... bad enough to face himself in a looking glass every day."
Tyrion, our "speaker for the grotesques", is nevertheless not immune to internalising and projecting normative body and beauty standards onto himself and others. ~S
The caricatures of Leonardo da Vinci.
It is claimed that Leonardo da Vinci would follow people for days at a time to memorise the shape of their heads and features, and then to draw them. Here are some of his caricatures and grotesques.

Elder Wing!
Aliens attack and our only hope is to combine our brutal and ancient occult into our military force to fight back! Our best pilots sacrifice themselves by interlocking with ghoulish body horror to control winged grotesques that slash the skies! #characterdesign
I've had a few spare hours lately so I sculpted alternate Grotesques for my Drukhari 40k army. @BLacroix30 made some awesome reference poses for me to use and inspire from, here's the first one printed. So cool to see them come alive! #3d #sculpture #miniatures
Mon top méchant, plutôt varié : ça peut aller des tarés génocidaires prophétiques aux comiques grotesques

New look.
Illustration from a Book of Hours attributed to an artist of the Ghent-Bruges school and dating from the late 15th century. More rainbow-coloured "grotesques" here: https://t.co/Hpvm20Azgh @BeineckeLibrary
@JessiSheron I guess the otherworldliness of the environment to Chihiro is conveyed through how un-eastern it looks. Yubaba is strangest of all so her whole look goes beyond Chinese and into European, aping the Carricatured English Etchings which were directly inspired by Japanese Grotesques
