Credit to the knapper who chose to make a handaxe on this flint with a natural hole! Great digging in stores today!

On this day in 1940, four teenagers followed a dog down a hole to discover the 17,000 year old Lascaux cave paintings. Even older though, is the 700,000 year old Happisburgh Handaxe which led to a sequence of events transforming our knowledge of early humans.

Working on a concept doodle of my first ever DnD character and have yet to decide on an eye colour for the little guy. He's a halfling fighter and he's spent a lot of the last few years on his own in the wilderness so he doesn't talk much and wields a warhammer or handaxes.

so this past weekend flick just kept pulling out javelin after javelin to throw at enemies, to the point our DM just asked "how many do you HAVE?"

i said i had eight, plus four handaxes. someone then made a joke about flick being like a metal porcupine.......

THEY'RE NOT WRONG.

If it wasn’t for the artwork & tactile opportunities I’m afraid to say I’d have walked past prehistory displays of tools I ❤️ their (consistent) interpretation strategies. To grip a handaxe is the only way to appreciate a hand held device (fits like an iPhone)

My D&D character Macaron, a Tiefling fighter who dual wields a handaxe and whip.

Not quite a perfect replica, a few major thermal flaws along the way. However, one handaxe & one fossil intact!

by E.Roudier/J.Harder. There's no evidence for the use of handaxes as weapons, I just like the drawing
