sorry for the delay. Yea I do, one thing I try to keep in mind for values and color is to make it like shapes to refine later after laying them down. I put them in simple hierarchy of values that is consistent at best
for color, it goes with values but im not strong for that yet

One challenge: keeping the map readable while working in a dangerously decadent/ indulgent amount of detail. It's all about setting up a visual hierarchy. Big shapes and thick lines for the major elements, variations within these shapes and thinner lines for patterns and motifs.
