Made a study using only my eyes to measure everything. First I show how it ended using only my asumptions in color. The second one is fixing the tone, saturation and adding a few higlights manually.

You awoke my instincts ^_^. personally I would avoid double outlines (banding) and using higlights on off planes. Your edit shows your you really learnt from mine (attached) but still made it yours, kept the tail, etc. I'm glad.
