We’ve always loved ladybugs. Historically, they meant luck, plus they dressed in style. Their noble title wasn’t from the peerage, though, but from religion, ie “Our Lady.” The British call them Ladybirds (ie “Bird of Our Lady”), but it seems poor taxonomy. 😉💕#SuperstitionSat

is by P B Hickling for “Ned the Lonely Donkey” by Noel Barr (1952). A Ladybird book I remember very well. The soft, tender pictures definitely tugged my infant heart-strings. Hickling illustrated a cherished few Ladybirds right at the end of his life.

Grimer ended up being 5-year old me's actual Pokémon & we went on adventures around the playground, battling ants & ladybirds.
