Star Wars (1977): Art by Ralph McQuarrie.
Reminder: Cloud City's design origin predates The Empire Strikes Back (1980), as this artwork features Alderaan's imperial prison as it is described in an earlier version of the SW script. With a Colin Cantwell early TIE design 🔥
First thing I did with @midjourney is to reimagine TROS' ending for the Reylo in me:

Thinking about Ralph McQuarrie’s amazing designs for Vader’s castle and the Leigh Brackett draft where Darth feeds his lovely pet gargoyles out of a gold bowl.

DID YOU KNOW? Fortress Vader, located in the volcanic planet Mustafar, was created after unused Ralph McQuarrie sketches for Episode V, The design team for Rogue One gave the castle a tuning fork shape, to suggest its tuning to the dark side. #StarWars #DarthVader
Can anyone recommend any films (or specific artists) that produce(d) really interesting / unusual concept art?

This is interesting: Remember the ice spiders from The Mandalorian (image 1)? It's based on a concept art that Ralph McQuarrie did for The Empire Strikes Back (image 2). Apparently @JonMcCoyArt worked on a similar creature for Rogue One that didn't make the cut (image 3).
