Y'know, I remember someone comparing the Nanites in Archie Sonic to the Metal Virus in IDW Sonic, and there are some similarities. But these two concepts are far from identical.
Both are nanomachines that can turn organic matter (like the forest in issue 152) into metallic matter

not really with nanite, even though these are super dense (250k tris) as long as overdraw and memory is kept in check it's basically no different if it was a flat plane. overdraw is sometimes a problem here when looked from the side at a sharp angle.
