Happy ! Virginia Woolf stayed here at Blo Norton Hall in 1906. She had an affair with Vita Sackville-West. They were both married and we would probably call them bisexual today. In 1926 Vita wrote: “I am reduced to a thing that wants Virginia”.

Bilbo and Frodo share a birthday today. Here's an illustration of the two of them I did a while back. I think we should all be more like Hobbits, except of course the Sackville-Baggins. Don't be like them!

Olga Ionajtis' illustrations for the 2005 Russian are a treasure trove of jewel-like imagery. Here's four gems: super cool Elrond translates the moon-letters; Bombur portage; Thorin and Co experience gold fever and greedy Sackville-Bagginses plunder Bilbo's stuff

So, hold up your hand if (like me) you sometimes get nostalgic for the days when the One Ring was just a cool magical artefact used by Bilbo to taunt spiders or dodge dragons, goblins and Sackville-Bagginses.
Come on, folks, you can admit it...
