4. Both are pretty neat games, but at the end of the day, I prefer the genesis one despite being less polished and having some liberties regarding storytelling. Having more tracks from the movie, the swell animations, and Aladdin having a cool Scimitar helps.

Another reference given is that paladin Roland's sword was Durandal, that means a strong scythe, may refer to a scimitar of sorts. Another interpretation of the name is being "strong flame". This eludes to Roland's weapon shape and element. Here's a comparison

I really love the detail in their swords.

Irene has a rapier (called espada ropera), lit the same design as the classic rapier originated in Spain around 1500.

And Thorns' is more akin a scimitar (see the curved blade), of arabic influence.
